Quick start guide (RTL-SDR software defined radio)

This link is a guide aimed at helping anyone set up a cheap radio scanner based on the RTL-SDR software defined radio as fast as possible on a Windows system. If you have any trouble during the installation, please see the troubleshooting guide further down the page. We also have brief instructions for getting started on Linux and OSX at the end of this page.

Please note that the RTL-SDR is not a plug and play device. You will need to have sufficient skills to perform basic PC operations such as unzipping files, installing software, moving and copying files and have the motivation to learn new software.

Descodificar señales ADS-B en Windows con dump1090

Pasos para instalar dump1090:

  1. Descargar y descomprimir dump1090 desde GitHub https://github.com/MalcolmRobb/dump1090/blob/master/dump1090-win.1.10.3010.14.zip
  2. Descargar y descomprimir RTL-SDR Windows http://sdr.osmocom.org/trac/attachment/wiki/rtl-sdr/RelWithDebInfo.zip
  3. Copiar los ficheros  libusb-1.0.dll, rtlsdr.dll and pthreadVC2-w32.dll de la carpeta RTL-SDR a la carpeta dump1090 renombrando pthreadVC2-w32.dll por pthreadVC2.dll.
  4. Ejecutar el fichero dump1090.bat.

Convertir un fichero WAV en RAW utilizando GNU Radio Companion (GRC)

Pasos para crear el diagrama de flujo en GNU Radio Companion que permite convertir un fichero WAV en RAW:

  • Bloque Wav File Source con el valor File de la ruta del fichero WAV
  • Bloque Streams to Stream
  • Bloque Rational Resampler con los valores:
    • Interpolation: 2000000 (2M)
    • Decimation: 44100 (44.1k)
    • Fractional BW: 0
  • Bloque Float To Char con el valor Scale: 127
  • Bloque File Sink con el valor File de la ruta del fichero RAW

Escuchar múltiples frecuencias simultáneamente en SDRSharp con AuxVFO

Pasos:

  1. Descargar el fichero AuxVFO
  2. Añadir el plugin AuxVFO al fichero Plugins.xml
  3. Poner en funcionamiento SDRSharp

SDR# (SDRSharp) is probably the most popular software program that is used with the RTL-SDR. It is free, fast and fairly easy to use.

SDR# is coded in C# and so runs on the Microsoft .NET runtime. SDR# has always used the 3.5 version of the .NET runtime, however recently the programmers have made the decision to upgrade the runtime used to the latest 4.6 version of .NET. For non-programmers this means that compatibility with newer operating system such as Windows 10 is enhanced, performance and stability is improved and that SDR# can now be run on Linux and OSX with Mono 4.0. The downside is that Windows XP and Vista are no longer supported operating systems (Vista SP2 is supported). An OS compatibility list for .NET 4.6 can be found here.

If you are an SDR# user and run an older operating system such as XP or Vista we suggest that you either upgrade your OS, or simply continue to run the older versions of SDR#.

In addition to the new changes, the install procedure has also changed. Firstly, the old sdrsharp.com website now redirects to airspy.com. To install SDR# now, simply download SDR# zip file from airspy.com/download.
